Rising to fame with his single, "Lover's Grip," Jake Edwards, professionally known as Them & I, continues to make impact within the folk genre. I first discovered Them & I this year actually, in 2024 -- and since my University doesn't have their own publication quite yet I decided to take matters into my own hands.

Them & I's music is comprised of organic sounds, incorporating samples like birds chirping and people talking, mixed in with airy synths, vocals, and guitar. Them & I's music can be described as sad music with hopeful instrumentals. Them & I comes from Perth, Australia and he currently resides in Melbourne.

When asked about why the name Them & I, "I chose Them & I because the topics of my songs always tend to revolve around two people wether its a story of love, heart break or anything in between." Jake takes inspiration from personal experiences, also other songs, poems and tries to incorporate poetry he's previously written into new music.

Jake started making music because he really likes listening to it, and he thought "I should give it a try." He recalls his first ever song written with his childhood best friend, they were both around the age of 7 -- funny enough they thought they'd make the charts, haha. Them & I finds his inspiration from Dean Blunt, and King Krule as of late but he is also drawn to Searows, Adrianna Lenker and Lowertown for inspiration too thats why his music sounds more folkier.

As of November 2024, Them & I will be opening for Esha Tewari, on her Australian tour 'Debut Aus Tour,' alongside Saskia Robin. When asked about touring, "its a surreal experience i really love [Esha's] stuff, and I'm super glad that I was able to get that opening spot."

After the success of Lover's Grip there's no doubt in my mind he's not going to be around for awhile, though Them & I "wouldn't have guessed it'd be my biggest song but it's pretty cool that a song I made in my bedroom could do so well." Lastly, Them & I was in Los Angeles and had a small acoustic show, he said "I've never ever performed in front of people, not even my friends or family, so I was super nervous but once I started it was really special. I just felt connected to everyone there, I also loved meeting everyone - it's amazing to actually see and talk to real people who enjoy your music, and they were really nice so that was a bonus."
